Buckling of stainless steel welded I-section columns

چکیده

This paper studies the buckling behaviour and design of welded I-section stainless steel columns. Experimental numerical structural performance data together with methods for columns available in literature have been collated reviewed. A modelling programme including validation parametric has carried out to supplement experimental assessment existing codified proposed flexural formulations Columns austenitic, duplex ferritic grades undergoing major axis minor investigated. From comparisons EN 1993–1-4 (EC3) capacity predictions, it was found that (1) austenitic columns, EC3 curve (? = 0.76 ?¯0 0.2) is suitable both axes, (2) grades, conservative, a higher (i) ? 0.49 0.2 axes or (ii) 0.34 may be adopted. In addition, recently Continuous Strength Method showed marginally improved strength predictions but slightly scatter.

Buckling of liquid columns.

Under appropriate conditions, a column of viscous liquid falling onto a rigid surface undergoes a buckling instability. Here we show experimentally and theoretically that liquid buckling exhibits a hitherto unsuspected complexity involving three different modes-viscous, gravitational, and inertial-depending on how the viscous forces that resist bending of the column are balanced. We also find t...

Creep Deformation Measurement of 316H Stainless Steel Multi-pass Welded Joints using Digital Image Correlation

A high temperature measurement system for creep deformation based on the digital image correlation (DIC) technique is described. The new system is applied to study the behaviour of a multi-pass welded joint in a high temperature tensile test and a load controlled creep test at 545°C. Spatially resolved tensile properties and time dependent creep deformation properties across a thick section typ...

Three-dimensional chemical analysis of laser-welded NiTi–stainless steel wires using a dual-beam FIB

The biomedical industry has an increasing demand for processes to join dissimilar metals, such as laser welding of NiTi and stainless steel wires. A region of the weld close to the NiTi interface, which previously was shown to be prone to cracking, was further analyzed by energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) extended in the third dimension using a focused ion beam. As the spatial resolution of ...

Neighbourhood effect of two short dents on buckling behaviour of short thin stainless steel cylindrical shells

Generally, thin cylindrical shells are susceptible for geometrical imperfections like non-circularity, non-cylindricity, dents, swellings etc. All these geometrical imperfections decrease the static buckling strength of thin cylindrical shells. In this work, neighbourhood effect of two circumferential short dents on the buckling behaviour of thin short stainless steel cylindrical shell is studi...
